Updated: Aug 30

Greetings everyone, this blog aims to explain the various methods to onboard your Apple devices in Apple Business Manager for smooth management of your Apple devices, and Discover the best methods to seamlessly add and manage your Apple devices in Apple Business Manager.

What is Apple Business Manager?

Apple Business Manager is an online platform created to help administrators or organizations manage devices like iOS, iPadOS, MacOS, and Apple TV. Organizations can procure apps and books for distribution to devices and access features like Apple Managed ID, Federated Authentication, Device Enrollment, Content purchasing, and integration with MDM solutions like Microsoft Intune, Mobile Iron, and others.

To work with ABM the devices should be running the below OS

  • iPhone devices: iOS 7 or later.

  • iPad devices: iPadOS 13.1 or later.

  • Mac devices: OS X 10.9 or later.

  • Apple TV devices: tvOS 10.2 or later.

There are two ways to onboard devices to ABM

Devices bought directly from Apple, Participating Apple Authorized Resellers, or network/cellular carriers can be enrolled in ABM. Regardless of where they were bought, existing devices can be added to ABM using the Apple configurator. You may also inquire with the reseller about adding existing devices purchased from them.

Initially, we must add or authorize the reseller in ABM. For more details, please refer to this blog Manage Resellers In Apple Business Manager

Authorized Reseller or Apple Reseller

We can ask Resellers to add the devices to ABM when a new device is purchased

Step 1: Log in to Apple Business Manager

Step 2: To select a device, tap on the device option and use the search bar at the top to find it by entering the serial number. Admin can see the reseller details under Source and the Order Number

Apple Configurator

Apple Configurator is a tool developed by Apple for administrators to generate device configurations and implement them on devices. It is frequently utilized for enrolling Apple devices in Apple Business Manager (ABM) and leveraging the Apple Device Enrollment Program (DEP) for managing device provisioning with MDM solutions like Microsoft Intune. Apple Configurator facilitates manual device enrollment in Apple Business Manager, which is beneficial for devices already in use or where ABM is not supported by a reseller or in a particular country.
